Ice thickness: 6 inches, clear black. Safe.
Location: South bay, 400 yards off marker 7.
Temperature: 22°F, wind NW 5-10 mph.
Time: 6:15 AM - 11:30 AM.
Set tip-ups with large shiners, 12-15 feet. Jigged Swedish pimple, silver, 18 feet.
Caught: 1 walleye, 3.2 lb. 1 northern pike, 4.1 lb (released, too bony).
Notes: Ice formed clean this year. No slush pockets. Walked out, left truck on shore. Dale's house already set up near the old fishing grounds, smoke from his stove.

Ice thickness: 7 inches.
Location: Same.
Temperature: 18°F, wind calm.
Time: 6:00 AM - 12:15 PM.
Tip-ups with shiners. Jigged chartreuse tube jig, 15-20 feet.
Caught: 2 walleye, 2.8 lb and 3.1 lb.
Notes: Forgot thermos. Dale brought coffee at 9:30, said ice was good all the way to the markers. Left before I could offer anything back.

Location: South bay, marker 7.
Temperature: 14°F, wind NE 10-15 mph.
Time: 5:45 AM - 1:00 PM.
Tip-ups, shiners. Jigged glow spoon, 20 feet.
Caught: 1 walleye, 4.3 lb. 1 perch, barely legal (released).
Notes: Marit's chair still catches the morning light through the kitchen window. Knocked snow off the seat before I left. Habit.
